The Medical School Engagement Pilot is heading into the evaluation phase

Following a series of successful events this academic year, including So you want to be a surgeon? An introduction to surgical careers conferences, Cutting Edge Careers workshops and our inaugural Future Surgeons 2023 conference, we have commenced the evaluation phase of the project.

Throughout the pilot programme we have been asking students for their views through a series of surveys, both before the pilot activities started and following each of the individual activities. A final post-pilot survey will ask students from the three universities to tell us about their career aspirations and interests, and if anything has changed since they attended at least one of our events this year.

The project steering group will be reviewing the quality and impact of all of our activities before reporting back to the universities and Council with our findings. A number of key recommendations on what the College should do next to continue to engage with future generations of surgeons and improve the diversity of the profession will also be put to Council in the autumn.
