President and Vice-President will now be voted for by the membership

College Council has now voted in favour of all governance recommendations proposed in the Kennedy Report. The most recent reforms, voted in by Council, mean that eligible fellows and members of the College will be able to elect the roles of President and Vice-President.

This follows another vote in favour of significant governance reform earlier in 2023, ensuring that at least one Vice-Presidential place goes to a woman, expanding the status of Invited members to include voting rights, and providing greater representation on Council across regions and career stages.

This is the final piece of the puzzle in delivering for you, our members, on governance reform. We are proud to have taken this huge step forward in achieving the ultimate outcome outlined in the Kennedy Report, for Council to be a diverse group of surgical professionals representative of, and accountable to, the College’s membership.
